Student Organization Advertising Quick Reference

All campus advertising must adhere to the policies listed below.  Approval may take up to two business days.  All approval must go through the Campus Life Department located in the Student Activity Center.

When reviewing campus advertising, staff will consider:

  • Is the content appropriate for the campus audience?
    • Profanity, offensive language/images are not permitted, messaging should fit a an audience of 17 years and older, questionable messaging may be reviewed for educational value and connection to university mission
    • Are university logos and marks used correctly?
      • Official university logos and marks cannot be altered or manipulated
      • Use of logos and marks cannot imply university approval or affiliation
      • University logos and marks must stand alone and cannot be used in conjunction with other organization logos and marks
      • Use of university logos and marks will require additional approval by University Communications (coordinated through Campus Life)
      • Does the piece advertise for off-campus business?
        • Only Bobcat Card vendors and university contract partners are permitted to advertise on campus
        • Mention of off-campus businesses will require additional approval by Auxiliary Services (coordinated through Campus Life)
        • Does the event involve sponsorship or donations?
          • Current Bobcat Card vendors and university business partners must be given first right of refusal
          • Catering guidelines must be followed
          • Sponsorship and donations will require additional approval by Auxiliary Services (coordinated through Campus Life)

Postings of any kind are limited to approved posting areas (see the Campus Life Student Organization Handbook for details).  Facilities Operations must approve exceptions to designated locations.

Banners hanging from the MSU Yes - see Campus Life Space permitting and granted on a first come-first served basis; organizations are limited to one banner at a time; banners may hang for no more than two weeks; special events may require removal of all banners; organization must remove banner and accessories
