NRSG - Nursing
Prerequisite: BIOL 2251K. This course provides an introduction to the health care delivery system which includes local, national, and international characteristics. The concepts of quality and safety and healthcare policy will be discussed. Factors that affect healthcare outcomes will be identified.

Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing Program. Corequisites: NRSG 3140L, 3240L. This course will introduce the science of pharmacology and consider the role of the registered nurse in the preparation, management, and administration of medications. Additionally the course focuses on the pathophysiology of disease and its relationship to pharmacological interventions. An emphasis is placed on understanding the action of medications, safe administration practices, and competence in drug calculations. The role of the nurse in creating a safe patient environment and in evaluating the patient's response to drug therapy will be discussed as an essential skill.

The clinical practice experience includes both direct and indirect application of didactic content and are designed to meet course outcomes. The foundations of reproductive health will be explored in terms of normal physiology and pathophysiology. Family planning will be critically appraised in terms of safety, effectiveness, convenience, patient education, access, expense, and personal preferences. History and physical assessment skills will be presented from a both feminist/male holistic viewpoint that emphasizes providing men and women's healthcare in a culturally sensitive manner.

This course is designed to encourage a deeper understanding of the history of forensic science as it relates to healthcare, crime vulnerable populations, and the epidemiology of violence. Students will explore theories and frameworks that contribute to the practice of forensics in healthcare, the role of the healthcare worker as it relates to forensics, and multidisciplinary professionals, including victims advocates, coroners, law enforcement, attorneys, and pathologists.
