Graduate Catalog 2024-2025

Non-Degree Programs

Individuals who wish to pursue self-improvement, certification renewal, or enjoyment, may enroll in a non-degree program. The John H. Lounsbury College of Education offers three broad categories of non-degree programs:

  • Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Approved Endorsement Programs

  • Non-Degree Graduate Programs leading to GaPSC Certification

  • Graduate Certificate Programs that do not lead to GaPSC certification

GEORGIA PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS COMMISSION (GaPSC) APPROVED ENDORSEMENT PROGRAMS

GaPSC approved endorsement programs recognize additional expertise in specific areas. The GaPSC will add the new endorsement field to the teaching, service, or leadership certificates of completers.

At Georgia College, students may enroll in the following GaPSC approved endorsement programs. Some of the endorsement programs are embedded in degree programs. Others are “stand alone” or “add-on” programs.

Should a student later decide to transfer to a degree-seeking program, no more than 9 credit hours earned in the non-degree program will be applied toward a degree program and only if approved by the degree program coordinator. Students must be certified to enroll in one of the non-degree graduate programs. Students in non-degree programs are not eligible for financial aid.

NON-DEGREE GRADUATE PROGRAMS LEADING TO GaPSC CERTIFICATION

There are three programs at Georgia College that lead to GaPSC Certification, but do not necessarily lead to the completion of a graduate degree.

Educational Leadership (Tier 1) Certification. Students may enroll in the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership Program and earn a Master’s Degree and Certification at the same time. That program requires 36 credit hours to complete. If a student wants to pursue the Educational Leadership (Tier 1) Certification but not the Master’s Degree, the student may enroll in the Non-Degree Educational Leadership Tier 1 Program, requiring 18 credit hours to complete.

Instructional Technology Certification. Students may enroll in the Instructional Technology (IT) M.Ed. Program and earn a Master’s Degree and Certification in IT by completing the 36 credit hour program. If a student wants to pursue the IT Certification but not the Master’s Degree, the student may enroll in the Non-Degree IT Certification Program, which requires 15 credit hours.

Library Media Certification. Students may enroll in the Library Media M.Ed. Program and earn a Master’s Degree and Certification in Library Media by completing the 36 credit hour program. If a student wants to pursue the Library Media Certification but not the Master’s Degree, the student may enroll in the Non-Degree Library Media Certification program and complete 24 credit hours.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS THAT DO NOT LEAD TO GaPSC CERTIFICATION

Education and Equity Graduate Certificate. This program does not lead to a graduate degree or certification.
