ODED 2110 Intro to Outdoor Education

Overview of the practice of outdoor education. Introduces students to the various ways that outdoor educators can serve as an agent of behavioral change through the use of adventure, environmental, and experiential education strategies. Field trips are required. Additional special course fee is required; see semester course schedule for amount.

ODED 2140 Group Development

This course provides theoretical and experiential understanding of the use of group development activities for facilitating individual and group learning. Weekend residential experience required.

ODED 2150 Challenge Course Leadership

Prerequisite: ODED 2140. ODED 2140 may be taken concurrently. Provides historical, theoretical, and experiential understanding of program and management practice associated with the use of "challenge courses". Technical skill development, facilitation strategies, safety procedures, equipment management, and program design are addressed. Additional special course fee required; see semester course schedule for amount.

ODED 2703 Special Topics in Outdoor Educ

Prerequisite: Approval of the Department Chairperson. This course offers an opportunity to study a topic of interest at an introductory level that is not included in the program of study. Special topics courses used in programs for a group of students or a cohort will require a DOE syllabus; otherwise a student will complete the special topic contract in conjunction with the faculty supervisor. Signatures signify agreement to the terms of the contract. This course is repeatable for credit.
