Georgia College’s Ina Dillard Russell Library prepares inquisitive academics to thrive in an information-intensive and diverse global community by identifying, collecting, and providing access to resources, developing learning-centered services, and providing instruction and expert support in a learning-rich environment. By creating a culture of innovation and a space for collaboration and development, library faculty and staff seek to impart the skills necessary for academic and professional success.
Access Services consists of Circulation and Interlibrary Loan departments. Circulation provides library information, access to GCSU Library materials, reserve materials and GIL Express requests for books from the USG libraries. Interlibrary Loan provides access to materials available from libraries across the United States and certain international libraries. The Operations and Strategic Initiatives Department coordinates the library’s makerspace, called The Studios, which supports 3-D and poster printing, audio and video recording, virtual and alternative reality, presentation practice, and other new and emerging technologies. Through the student-led Technology Desk, students are able to schedule access to one of the library’s 37 individual and group study rooms, and to receive assistance with their technology-based projects.
Special Collections maintains the University Archives, the Paul D. Coverdell Papers, the Flannery O'Connor Collection, rare books and manuscript collections and the Horology Collection. The faculty provide research assistance for all materials contained within the department and is responsible for providing quality outreach programs for the department. The mission of the Museum Galleries is to illuminate diverse narratives that are regionally and historically representative to support and enhance discovery, accessibility, and integration of unique collection materials into the educational, research and administrative activities of the University and its broader communities. The Museum has four galleries, including the University Archives Gallery, the Flannery O’Connor Gallery of Southern Literary Works, the History and Culture Gallery, and the W. J. Usery, Jr. Leadership Gallery. as well as a multipurpose electronically-equipped education room available for instruction and special events. Collection and Resource Services orders and processes all library materials, including books, serials, and audio-visual materials. The department provides access to information resources located at the GCSU Library through the library catalog. Instruction and Reference Services (I&RS) assists all library users with their research needs, both in person and virtually. I&RS Librarians provide information literacy instruction for courses across the curriculum and at the undergraduate and graduate levels as requested by faculty. Along with other library faculty, I&RS librarians teach sections of GC1Y and also teach in the library’s Information Studies minor. Additionally, I&RS librarians create and maintain online research guides and tutorials.
