The College of Arts and Sciences houses thirteen academic departments and a wide range of majors, minors and concentrations. Because the arts, sciences, humanities, social sciences, fine arts and much of the core curriculum are at the heart of a liberal arts education, the College of Arts and Sciences plays a key role in a Georgia College education.
Students choosing majors in the Arts and Sciences receive a broad-based education as well as in-depth knowledge and skills in particular disciplines. A common goal of the core and every major is to cultivate intellectual skills in critical and creative thinking, analysis and synthesis and effective communication.
Faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences are distinguished scholars and teachers in their fields. The faculty are actively engaged in their disciplines and dedicated to teaching. Part of good teaching is to challenge each student to achieve excellence both in the classroom and beyond. Beyond the classroom curriculum, students are encouraged to participate in undergraduate research, internships and service projects. Opportunities abound for international study and exchanges that allow students to broaden their understanding of the world and of themselves.
Whether they go on to professional school, graduate school, or directly into employment, Arts and Sciences graduates are ideally suited for our rapidly changing world and prepared for lifelong learning and a career of leadership and service.
